Rock Road Construction Report

Rock Road Construction

Construction Update

This spring, the contractor switched traffic to construct the northeast quadrant of the intersection of Meadowlark and Rock Road and has completed milling and resurfacing.

Traffic signals will be installed, and pavement markings (paint) are in the process.

All lanes of traffic will soon be open, although temporary closures will occur as sidewalks are constructed and storm sewer work is completed.

Background

The Rock Road Reconstruction Project began on August 13 and expected to last more than a year. Cornejo and Sons is serving as the contractor.

Rock Road will be improved from James St. to Patriot Ave. (63rd St.). The portion of the project between James St. and Meadowlark Blvd. will be reconfigured to provide a five-lane section with a continuous left turn lane. The majority of this work will be accomplished between the existing curbs with limited effect on traffic.

Rock Road between Meadowlark Blvd. and Patriot Ave. will be completely reconstructed to an urban section with storm sewers, curbs and gutters. The construction in this area will provide a minimum of five lanes, including a continuous left turn lane. The traffic signals at Meadowlark will be reconfigured, and new signals will be installed at Tall Tree Rd.

Construction will begin on the west side with the existing northbound lanes being used to carry traffic. After construction of the west side improvements, traffic will be moved to the newly constructed pavement while the east side is constructed. Three lanes of traffic, including a continuous left turn lane, will be provided during this phase of construction.
