Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update
Robert Mendoza, Director of Public Works & Parks, points out something to the Parks and Master Plan Update Steering Committee Members at Crane Park. L-R: Tom Snodgrass, USD 260, Keith Volz, Planning Commission, and Kathy Sexton, City Manager. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan is the tool the City uses to determine its long and short term recreational goals. This includes programming (types of recreation), and the facilities or land that is needed to support the desires of the community. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan is not just a plan for City government. There is a valued partnership between the City of Derby, USD 260 School District and the Derby Recreation Center. All three entities work together to provide programming and facilities for the community as a whole. Collaborating on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update ensures that our resources are being used wisely and for the benefit of all residents and students. The City has hired PROS Consulting to perform the Master Plan Update. The benefit the City receives from the consultant process is the information gathered from many different sources which creates a community point of view towards recreation. It is very important that we look at the many types of users of our park and recreation system and provide amenities which benefit the city as a whole. As with any plan, you work through it, you complete certain parts and re-prioritize others. Derby is at a place where it must begin to look to the future of our system. As the city grows, the need for recreational programs and facilities increase. This plan will direct our spending and determine our goals for the future. Questions or comments?
