Vaughn Nun was appointed to the City Council in October 2007. Previously, he served on the Planning Commission.
The Nun family moved to Derby in 1988. He said he has seen the community grow substantially over the past 19 years and wants to be involved in the decision-making process regarding future growth.
Nun retired from a 21-year career in the military in 1993. He worked in a number of different areas, including flight crew member, strategic planner, intelligence officer, data base manager, and aircraft maintenance officer.
Nun is now a financial consultant and branch manager for Verus Financial Group in Derby. He earned his bachelor of science in education from the University of Nebraska and his master of science in management and human relations from Abilene (Texas) Christian University.
He is active in his church, Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, is a member of the Derby Chamber of Commerce and Derby Rotary Club.
Nun and his wife, Susan, have four grown children, Staci, Alicia, Tamara and Eric, along with five grandchildren.
Heath Horyna

Heath Horyna was appointed to the City Council on October 14, 2008. Horyna, a native of Pittsburg, Kan., works as an environmental scientist for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
His previous experience includes serving on the City of Haysville Safety Committee and Haysville Tree Board. Horyna currently serves on the Salina Area Technical School Education Advisory Committee and the Kansas Water Environment Association Laboratory Committee. He is a member of Udall Countryview Baptist Church.
Horyna has a desire to represent the citizens of Derby, ensuring that the development and sustainability of the community and infrastructure will be available for future generations. His favorite issues include environmental awareness, recreations, safety, and the growth of the community.
Horyna is a graduate of Fort Scott Community College and Southwestern College. He and his wife, Kristy, have two daughters, Karlee and Karsyn.
