ADA Advisory Board

This board was established to work towards full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act with respect to all City facilities and activities. The board also serves as a recommending body to the City Council. At least four of the six members must be disabled or representatives of an organization or group that provides services to the disabled.

Parks and Urban Forestry Board

This board is an advisory board that assists the Parks Division of Public Works. The board provides support, ideas, educational and environmental programs and events to engage the citizens of Derby in our park system. The board also acts as the Tree Board, which deals with environmental issues and or urban forestry needs. This is an excellent board if you are an active user of the city's park and recreational systems. The board members are involved and should be available to participate in a variety of community celebrations, including Arbor Day, Derby Garden Tour, Wichita Flower and Garden Show, and others. The board;s goal is to provide great recreational facilities and greens spaces for our active community.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is responsible for the annual review of the Comprehensive Plan; preparing, adoption, and maintaining the Zoning Regulations and Subdivision regulations; holding hearings on special uses, zone changes, and vacation requests; reviewing and approving plats, commercial site plans, and lot splits; and making recommendations to the City Council to approve or disapprove requests brought before them.

This board, also known as BZA, considers various appeals, variances, conditional use requests, and related zoning matters. Members cannot hold any other public office within the City, except that members of the Planning Commission may also serve on the board.
