The City of Derby is considering moving to a four day workweek in 2012. Learn the background of this initiative, reasons behind the change, and benefits of a four day workweek.

A committee of representatives from city departments helped develop a proposal to move to four 10-hour work days. The Focused 4-Day Workweek Committee began meeting in April 2011 and met bi-weekly for two months and periodically thereafter.

The committee focused primarily on the following three goals established by City Manager Kathy Sexton:
1) Be a leader in innovative attempts to improve customer service to our residents and business partners
2) Be an employer of choice for the metro-area workforce, and
3) Use creative and thoughtful methods to deal with budget pressures in 2012 and beyond.
