Council Approves 8.5% Water Rate Increase

At its December 13 meeting, the Derby City Council approved an 8.5% water rate increase, effective January 1, 2012.
The increase was in response to an increase in the wholesale rate charged by the City of Wichita of 10.46%, effective January 1, 2012.
The increase is due both to rising costs for Wichita to produce clean, safe drinking water and to a change in the manner in which Wichita charges its various types of customers (Wichita residential, Wichita businesses, wholesale to other cities like Derby, etc.).
