City Encourages Use of Volunteer Website Service Launched by State
December 6, 2007

In August 2007, Kansas Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson initiated an effort to promote volunteerism in the State of Kansas. This effort focused on the creation and launch of an online database - www.volunteerkansas.ks.gov – which serves as an outlet for volunteer organizations and volunteers.

“Our state is already setting the standard for strong volunteering – ranking fifth nationally in the Corporation for National and Community Service’s 2007 ‘Volunteering in America’ report,” states Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson. “While we are doing a great job, I know we can do even better.”

On the Volunteer Kansas website, you will find a database of service opportunities throughout Kansas. This database is searchable by the organization, the type of service, and the county in which the activity takes place.

The City of Derby also values volunteerism. Its mission statement promotes volunteers who are committed to making Derby a great place to live.

The City has a link to the Volunteer Kansas website within its Volunteer Opportunities page. Derby community volunteers and Derby organizations seeking volunteers are encouraged to use this state-wide and local resource to meet their volunteer-related needs.
