City of Derby News Release

Tall Tree Road Closes at Rock Road and Opens at Woodlawn
October 30, 2007

As part of the Rock Road construction project, Tall Tree Road immediately west of Rock Road will close on November 1, 2007, for approximately 90 days. Access to The Greens apartments, homes in The Oaks community, and the Derby Golf and Country Club is available from the north on Patriot Avenue (63rd Street) at Triple Creek Drive. In addition, on November 1 a newly constructed portion of Tall Tree Road from the roundabout in the middle of The Oaks community west to Woodlawn opens for traffic, making the golf course and homes in The Oaks and The Greens accessible from the west.

During the course of the project, which began in August 2007 and is expected to last more than a year, Rock Road will be improved from James St. north to Patriot Ave. The portion of the project between James St. and Meadowlark Blvd. will be reconfigured to provide a five-lane section with a continuous left turn lane. The majority of this work will be accomplished between the existing curbs with limited effect on traffic.

Rock Rd. between Meadowlark Blvd. and Patriot Ave. will be completely reconstructed to an urban section with storm sewers, curbs and gutters. The construction in this area will provide a minimum of five lanes, including a continuous left turn lane. The traffic signals at Meadowlark Blvd. will be reconfigured, and new signals will be installed at Tall Tree Rd.

In other road construction news, the Sedgwick County’s 63rd Street bridge project is completed, and 63rd St. is now open to traffic from Derby to Rose Hill.
