Smoke Detector Program
To ensure that all Derby residents have early warning in case of a fire in their residence, the Derby Fire & Rescue Department offers a free Smoke Detector Program to all residents to provide them with complimentary installation of a free smoke detector for each level of their home.
Fire Department personnel will come to your home and install smoke detectors where they are needed. The smoke detector and service are provided by the City of Derby.
An estimated 20% of U.S. homes do not have working smoke detectors. In nearly all of these homes the reason for smoke detectors not working properly is due to dead or missing batteries. Nearly one-third of residential fires and two-fifths of residential fire fatalities occur in homes with no smoke alarms.
For more information or to have a smoke detector installed, call the Derby Fire & Rescue Department at 788-5819.
