Rock Road Traffic Enforcement Efforts Stepped Up
August 30, 2007
Each year across the state of Kansas, hundreds of highway miles are repaired or reconstructed so that residents and visitors may enjoy safe and comfortable travel. Whether you are going to work, on vacation or to a family activity, safety on the road is everyone’s responsibility.
The Kansas Department of Transportation statistics tell us that there were 1,862 traffic accidents in construction zones in 2006. Fourteen people were killed and 452 people were injured as a result of these accidents.
Due to these numbers and Derby’s dedication to maintaining a safe community, the Derby Police Department is announcing a wide-scale enforcement program. Motorists driving in the construction area from 1100 N. Rock Road to 2400 N. Rock Road will receive doubled fines for traffic infractions in posted construction zones. Motorists in construction zones should watch for slow moving vehicles, re-direction of traffic lanes, and reduced visibility.
Those traveling through construction zones should buckle up, stay alert, follow the signs, and be patient. As you would any time you get behind the wheel, motorists should limit distractions such as cell phones, radios, and pets. Children should also be properly restrained in motor vehicles.
If you have questions about these enforcement efforts please contact the Derby Police Department at 316-788-1557.
