City of Derby News Release

Rock Road Construction Update
December 7, 2007

The City of Derby would like to alert motorists of an upcoming change in traffic flow on Rock Road. The project’s contractors plan to switch two-way traffic to the newly constructed lanes on the west side of Rock Road between Meadowlark Blvd. and Patriot Ave. the week of December 10, weather permitting.

This change will give motorists three lanes in most locations and left turns will again be permitted. The addition of left turn lanes at the intersection of Rock Road and Meadowlark Blvd. will also allow signal modifications that should improve the traffic-handling efficiency of the intersection.

After traffic has been switched, new markings and signage will be installed on Rock Rd. between Meadowlark Blvd. to James St. The new markings will provide a roadway more consistent with the ultimate design for this segment of Rock Road; forgoing existing right turn lanes in favor of a continuous left turn lane.

The overall scope of the project reconfigures the roadway between James St. and Meadowlark Blvd. to provide a five-lane section with a continuous left turn lane and improves the roadway between Patriot Ave. and Meadowlark Blvd. to an urban standard with a minimum of five lanes, stormwater sewers, and curb and gutter. The project contractor is Cornejo & Sons.
