City of Derby News Release
Rock Road Construction Update
August 23, 2007
The Rock Road construction project is well underway. Southbound traffic on Rock Road is now limited to one lane between Tall Tree Rd. and James St.
Starting Thursday, August 23, motorists will notice new “No Left Turn” signs affecting southbound traffic at Glen Hills Drive and at College Park Southbound motorists must continue to the traffic signal at James for left-turn access to homes and businesses east of Rock Road.
The limitation on left turns will help traffic flow more smoothly, particularly during the busiest times of the day. The limitation will continue until work is completed between James and Meadowlark.
During the course of the project, Rock Road will be improved from James Street north to Patriot Avenue. The portion of the project between James St. and Meadowlark Blvd. will be reconfigured to provide a five-lane section with a continuous left turn lane. The majority of this work will be accomplished between the existing curbs with limited effect on traffic.
Rock Road between Meadowlark Blvd. and Patriot Ave. will be completely reconstructed to an urban section with storm sewers, curbs and gutters. The construction in this area will provide a minimum of five lanes, including a continuous left turn lane. The traffic signals at Meadowlark will be reconfigured, and new signals will be installed at Tall Tree Rd.
Construction has begun on the west side with the existing northbound lanes being used to carry traffic. After the west side improvements are complete, traffic will be moved to the newly constructed pavement while the east side is constructed. Three lanes of traffic, including a continuous left turn lane, will be provided during this phase of construction.
