City of Derby News Release
Revised Street Reclamite Schedule
September 15, 2011
Due to the wet, cool weather, the City of Derby has revised its reclamite work schedule. Work will begin again on Monday, September 19 and is scheduled to be completed September 30, weather permitting.
Affected residents will be notified of reclamite work with door hangers. During the application process, pets and children should not be allowed on the street. If residue gets on a driveway, it can be washed with water or it will wear off in two to six weeks. If residue gets on a vehicle, wash it immediately with soap and water. If that’s not possible, use a degreaser at a car wash. The product manufacturer recommends staying off the streets until sand has been applied, which is usually two to three hours after the reclamite is applied. The sand adds traction to the street surface.
Reclamite application process:
- Traffic and all parked vehicles must be removed from affected streets by 8:00 a.m.
- The contractor will close the street to apply the reclamite.
- Approximately two hours after the reclamite is applied, sand will be applied and the street will be open. Do not drive on the streets until after the sand has been applied because the streets will be slick and oil can get on vehicles.
- To reduce the chance of residue on vehicles, drive slowly for several days. Fresh oil signs will be posted.
- The sand will be swept 1-2 days after application. At this point the project is complete.
- If there is rain or standing water on the pavement, street work will be delayed. In the case of inclement weather street work will be rescheduled. Door hangers will be hung on doors with the new date.
The reclamite schedule and street map are attached. The City of Derby appreciates your patience and cooperation during this time. Improved roadways will be the reward for all residents. If you have questions, contact Street Superintendent George Brown at 788-0301.
