The Derby Police Department provides a wide range of law enforcement services for the citizens of Derby. The mission of this department is to work in partnership with the community to maintain safe surroundings for all residents. The police department works to protect life and property, assure the preservation of human rights and enhance quality of life.

The department is comprised of three divisions: Administration, Technical Services & Patrol.

Administration

The Administration division includes the Police Chief and Deputy Chief, along with an Administrative Secretary. The Police Chief has overall authority and responsibility for the operation of the police department. Duties include establishing operating guidelines, budget planning and oversight, overall supervision of department personnel and responsibility for the quality of service provided by the Derby Police Department.

Deputy Chief Doug Chambers, who has served on the department since 1980. Chambers is responsible for the Investigations Section, crime statistics and analysis, grant writing and monitoring, court coordination, and planning and research.
