Operation Impact Conducts Rock Road Enforcement
October 1, 2010
In August 2010, law enforcement agencies in Sedgwick County started a new task force known as Operation Impact. Operation Impact is designed to establish cooperative efforts and to create alliances aimed at reducing the number of people injured in accidents and decreasing the dollar amount of property loss associated with vehicular accidents.
“This task force will enable agencies to share resources and conduct joint operations,” said Lt. Jimmy Queen, Derby Police Department. “Agencies use law enforcement techniques to reduce traffic related issues, and also partner with the media to educate the public on issues in order to gain voluntary compliance with traffic laws.”
On September 29, Operation Impact held its first large cooperative effort - special traffic enforcement on Rock Road from the north Sedgwick County line to the south Sedgwick County line. Enforcement ran for 24 hours and included agencies from Bel Aire, Derby, Mulvane, Wichita, Sedgwick County and the Highway Patrol.
In the Derby city limits citations were issued for a number of minor traffic infractions. One warrant arrest was also made.
“The Derby Police Department encourages all motorists to follow the rules of the road and always drive with care and caution,” said Lt. Queen.
