City of Derby News Release

National Night Out at Rock River Rapids
July 30, 2010

The City of Derby would like to invite residents to Rock River Rapids, 1900 E. James, on Monday, August 2 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for its annual National Night Out Celebration.

National Night Out is a unique drug and crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Here in Derby, it’s a yearly reminder to residents to participate in a “going away party for neighborhood crime and drugs.”

This free event will include:

  • Static displays by the Derby Police and Fire & Rescue Departments
  • State Farm Insurance Bike Rodeo
  • McConnell Air Force Base Security Police static display
  • Free fruits and vegetables provided by the Derby Community Coalition Promoting Healthy Choices made possible by a grant from the Health & Wellness Coalition of Wichita and Wichita Community Foundation.

Participants can also register to win a Family Fun Kit containing a flying disc, soccer disc, tennis balls, basketball, football, soccer ball, sidewalk chalk, and jump rope.

If you are having a block party in your neighborhood on August 3 for the nationwide observance of National Night Out, please notify the Derby Police Department at least 48 hours in advance by calling 788-1557. The department will provide barricades to ensure safety.

If you have questions, please call Lt. Jimmy Queen at 788-1557.
