Koester Honored at KWEA Conference

Tori KoesterDerby Wastewater Laboratory Technician, Tori Koester, received the Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award at the 2010 Kansas Water Environment Association Conference. She was also the recipient of the Crystal Crucible Award and took third place in the Environmental Excellence Competition.

The Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award was established in 1993 to recognize individuals for outstanding performance, professionalism and contributions to the water quality analysis profession.

Koester has worked for the city since May 2005. She is a Class II Certified Lab Analyst and Treatment Operator. The following accomplishments over the past five years illustrate her commitment to water quality:

  • Recertification of Derby’s Wastewater Lab
  • Creation of Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance Manual for the lab
  • Development of a graphing program for wastewater testing
  • Perfect record on water proficiency tests

The Crystal Crucible award was established in 2002 to acknowledge those who contribute to the Wastewater Laboratory field and deserve recognition for their efforts, and the Environmental Excellence Competition is a trivia competition.
