Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Increases
July 2, 2010

The June 19 Household Hazardous Waste remote recycling event in Derby was an astounding success. There were 553 vehicles that passed through the event, and 61,922 pounds of waste was collected by Sedgwick County.

The previous remote collection event was held in 2006. The county reported 115 vehicles and 13,090 pounds of waste recycled. When comparing these two events, the 2010 event realized a 380% increase in vehicles and a 373% increase in pounds of recycled waste.

Items recycled included paint, used oil, flammable liquids, batteries, poisons, aerosols, antifreeze, oxidizers, acids, bases, fluorescent bulbs, and propane.

The City of Derby would like to thank Sedgwick County for its assistance and thank Derby residents for being responsible citizens and recycling their household hazardous waste.
