Garage Sale Rules & Regulations

Summer is in full swing and garage sale signs are popping up all over town. Please remember the City of Derby’s rules and regulations regarding garage sales.
- The City of Derby does not require a permit for garage sales.
- Residents are allowed to have one garage sale every six months.
- A garage sale is limited to three days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).
- Signs may be posted only on the day(s) of the sale.
- Signs may not exceed six square feet.
- Signs may not be placed on trees, utility poles or fences.
- Signs can be placed on public property (right of way or easement), but must be 10 feet back from the curb or edge of the street and removed when the sale is over.
- Signs that are in violation of City ordinance may be removed by the City’s code enforcement staff.
As a reminder, the Crime Stoppers Citywide Garage Sale is on Saturday, June 6. Register at any financial institution in Derby or at the Derby Weekly Informer. The cost for signage and advertising is only $10.
