Governor Encourages Kansans to Dump the Pump on June 17
June 11, 2010

Governor Parkinson issued a proclamation declaring June 17 as Dump the Pump Day in Kansas. The 5th annual observance is a day in which citizens are encouraged to use public transportation to save money, protect the environment, reduce dependency on foreign oil, and improve their quality of life.

Did you know that people who use public transportation can save, on average, $9,000 per year based on today’s gas prices? Using public transportation reduces the country's carbon footprint by 37 million metric tons - the equivalent of the electrical usage of 4.9 million households in a year.

The City of Derby would like to invite residents to try out the Derby Dash – the city’s public transportation provider. The promotion the week of June 14-18 is a round trip ride to Rock River Rapids for only $3. Call 788-RIDE to schedule your ride today.

The Derby Dash is also offering a Dash Around Derby Summer Ride Card, good for trips to and from the Derby Library, Rock River Rapids, Derby Plaza Theatres, Derby Senior Center and the Derby Recreation Center. The $15 card is good for 10 rides and can be purchased at any of the participating businesses, at both Dillons stores, and City Hall.

If you have questions, please contact the Derby Dash at 788-RIDE (7433).
