Derby Fire & Rescue Receives PETCO Foundation Grant
July 16, 2010
The Derby Fire & Rescue Department received a $1,000 grant from the PETCO Foundation to purchase seven animal crates.
The PETCO Foundation’s mission is to support efforts that enhance the lives of companion animals while strengthening the bond between people and pets. PETCO raises money for their foundation through fundraisers and in-store donations.
The crates will be housed at Fire Station #2 and be available to pet owners who come to the storm shelter during severe weather. There are four small crates and three large crates.
“The purpose of the crates is to assure that citizens and their pets are safe during severe weather,” said Derby Firefighter Randy Spillman. “In addition, having crates available to residents will make the storm shelter a calmer place for everyone.”
The crates will also be used in the event of a house fire and during animal rescue operations.
If you are interested in donating to the PETCO Foundation, you can do so at the Derby PETCO, located at 1912 N. Rock Rd., or at www.petco.com.
