City of Derby News Release
Derby Designated as a "Best Place to Retire"
October 3, 2007
Derby was designated as a “Best Place to Retire” in a recent report by U.S. News and World Report.
“It stands to reason that if we’re one of the best places to live that we are also one of the best places to retire,” said Derby Mayor Dion Avello. “It’s representative of the people of Derby and our values.”
The U.S. News & World Report website allows visitors to rank top locations throughout the U.S. according to self-selected criteria. Visitors can find the places that best match personal preferences about region, weather, cost of housing, recreational and cultural activities, social environment, healthcare availability, and crime levels.
Other Kansas towns recognized include Great Bend, Hays, Lawrence, Lenexa, Manhattan, Newton, Olathe, Overland Park, Prairie Village and Shawnee.
In July 2007, Derby was also recognized as a Top Ten Town for Families by Family Circle magazine.
