City of Derby News Release

Volunteers Sought for Derby's Day of Service
August 29, 2011

In August 2009, President Barack Obama challenged Americans to set aside September 11 every year as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. He called on Americans to join together to honor our heroes of that day as well as the brave men and women in uniform who continue to protect our country at home and abroad.

Here in Derby, residents will have the opportunity to serve their community on Sunday, September 11 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at High Park, 2700 E. Madison. Families, service organizations, youth groups and church groups are invited to help clean the park following the National Bar-B-Que Derby event. All materials will be supplied, and participants are encouraged to wear work clothes.

If you would like to be involved, please call Amy Akers at 788-0301 or email her at amyakers@derbyweb.com.
