City of Derby News Release
Day of Service Call for Volunteers
August 19, 2010
In August 2009, President Barack Obama challenged Americans to set aside September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. He called on Americans to join in service on September 11 and honor our heroes of that day as well as the brave men and women in uniform who continue to protect our country at home and abroad.
The City is inviting residents and community service groups to participate in a day of service on Saturday, September 11 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at High Park, 2700 E. Madison. During this event, the Derby Public Works Department will work with community members to perform minor repairs at the park such as painting, staining, and general maintenance. If you are interested in volunteering, check in with city staff at the enclosed shelter.
All materials will be supplied, and residents are encouraged to wear work clothes. Lunch will be served at the completion of the event.
If you or your community group would like to be involved, please pre-register your participation with Amy Akers, Public Works Coordinator, at 788-0301 or via email. Registration is not required, but will help staff plan for work materials and lunch.
