City Receives Financial Excellence Award
October 14, 2010

The City of Derby has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for 2008.

“The City of Derby operates in a fiscally conservative manner, and we’re proud of the job our staff does with financial management,” said Derby Mayor Dion Avello.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The award requirements include demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and to motivate citizens to read the financial report.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.

The document is available for public review at City Hall and the Derby Public Library. It is also available on finance department page on the city website.
