City of Derby News Release
Derby Police Department Implements New Communication Tool
February 9, 2010
The Derby Police Department is implementing a new community-based communication tool called “Citizen Observer.” This internet-based program is designed to open the lines of communication between citizens and the police department through text messages, email and the city’s website.
This communication method was chosen because of its ability to improve service delivery through timely sharing of information. Information can be posted directly to the police department’s page on the Citizen Observer website. Information will include crimes being investigated, safety tips, crime data and analysis, and traffic information.
Citizens can sign up to receive email and text alerts from Citizen Observer. They can register individually or as a part of a neighborhood watch or business group
Citizens are able to report crime tips anonymously. Tips may be sent by texting 847411 (Tip411) or by calling 788-8477 (TIPS).
Citizens and business owners are encouraged to subscribe to Citizen Observer by visiting the police department’s page.
