Existing businesses are often the source of new job creation and increased capital investment. Some estimate that as many as 80% of new jobs are created by a community's existing businesses.

In Derby, a good example of this kind of growth is BRG Precision Products, located in the Derby Business Park. This homegrown manufacturing business expanded from a 7,000 square foot facility with 25 employees into a new 42,000 square foot building with plans to hire 100 additional workers over ten years. The City was able to assist in their growth by agreeing to a tax abatement that will enable them to increase productivity and profits, eventually benefiting the entire community.
