City Looking for Board and Commission Applicants

Derby Mayor Dion Avello is looking for volunteers to serve on the City’s Parks and Urban Forestry Board and Planning Commission. Interested residents can pick up applications at City Hall, 611 Mulberry or download an application here.
Applicants must live in the Derby city limits. The application deadline is Wednesday, October 31 at 5:00 p.m. Appointments will be presented for City Council approval by Mayor Avello at the November 13 City Council meeting.
The Parks and Urban Forestry Board recommends improvements for City parks; develops goals and objectives for usage of the existing parks and open spaces; and recommends additional park grounds and the size and types of park grounds to be considered. The board has seven members and meets on the second Thursday of the month at 11:00 a.m. The normal term of service is two years, but the open seat is up for reappointment in May 2008.
The Planning Commission performs an annual review of the Comprehensive Plan; prepares, adopts and maintains the zoning regulations and subdivision regulations; holds hearings on annexations, zone change requests and vacation requests; and reviews and approves plats and lot splits. The commission has 10 members and meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. The term of service is three years, but the open seat is up for reappointment in May 2009.
