City of Derby News Release
City Looking for Board Applicants to Fill Unexpired Terms
January 14, 2009
Derby Mayor Dion Avello is looking for volunteers to fill one unexpired term on the Parks & Urban Forestry Board and one unexpired term on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Board. Interested residents may pick up an application at City Hall, 611 Mulberry, or download an application.
The application deadline is Friday, January 30 at 5:00 p.m. Appointments will be presented for City Council approval by Mayor Avello. Appointments will be effective in February 2009.
ADA Board (1 unexpired term)
The ADA Board meets quarterly on the first Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. (January, April, July and October). The board receives input from the public as the City updates its self-evaluation plan and develops an ADA Transition Plan to achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Board also conducts sensitivity training for city employees. If you are disabled, know someone who is, or are a senior citizen, this is the board for you.
Parks & Urban Forestry Board (1 unexpired term)
The Parks & Urban Forestry Board meets on the second Thursday of the month at 11:00 a.m. The Board provides support, ideas, educational and environmental programs and events to engage the citizens of Derby in the park system. The board also deals with environmental issues and urban forestry needs. If you are an active user of Derby’s parks and recreation system, this would be a great board to serve on. Board members are involved with a wide variety of community events, such as Arbor Day, the Derby Garden Tour, Wichita Flower and Garden Show and others. The Board’s goal is to provide great recreation facilities and green spaces for our active community.
