City of Derby News Release

Art Gallery at City Hall Will Feature Digital Photography
January 23, 2009

The Art Gallery at City Hall will feature a variety of digital photography by three local photographers. The Art Gallery, located at 611 Mulberry Rd., will be open through April 30, 2009.

An Artist Reception will be held on January 27, at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall. The public is invited to attend, and refreshments will be served.

The three featured photographers include Cheryl Bannon, Ward III Council Member; Bill Fales, Derby Police Officer; and Barney Tull, Board of Zoning Appeals board member.

Bannon began exploring digital photography a year ago and has spent many hours taking photos of wildlife, newborns, and whatever catches her eye. She uses a variety of filters and manipulation to get to her final product.

Fales, who fell in love with landscapes while passing through Kansas many years ago, decided to make his home here. Four years ago Fales created his own photography company and specializes in nature and wildlife. He also takes family and individual portraits along with senior portraits, weddings and sports teams.

Tull has been interested in photography all his life. In 2005 he decided to switch from film to digital photography, which dramatically changed his life as an amateur photographer. He takes photos of any subject and is passionate about his work. He views the world from a light, color and texture perspective, always looking to capture his next image.

The Art Gallery at City Hall is a partnership between the City of Derby, the Derby Recreation Commission and Derby Schools. The project was established in November 2007 to feature and inspire the artistic talents of residents, especially that of young artists, by contributing to community art appreciation and providing a venue to exhibit artwork. The art gallery is open during regular operating hours at City Hall: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
