Arbor Day Celebration Scheduled for April 25
April 14, 2008

The annual City of Derby Arbor Day Celebration is scheduled for Friday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend this fun, free event that will be held at the High Park enclosed shelter, 2700 E. Madison.

The Arbor Day event, which will feature the theme “Water Wise Landscaping,” will include:

  • Presentation
  • Planting of the Arbor Day tree
  • Special guest - Sprig the Squirrel, a Treeture (animal that teach you about trees, tree care and tree planting) provided by the Derby Community Foundation
  • Moonwalk, cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones provided by the Derby Optimists Club
  • Free refreshments provided by the City of Derby
  • A coloring table for children
  • Free rain gauges provided by TenderCare Lawn & Landscape
  • 300 tree seedlings provided by the City of Derby Public Works & Parks department
  • Flower seeds provided by Boeing Wichita Credit Union

Derby has been recognized as a Tree City USA recipient for the last 15 consecutive years and Growth Award recipient for the past nine years. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

This event is being organized by the City of Derby and the Derby Parks & Urban Forestry Board.
