City of Derby News Release

Public Works Showcase Planned for May 21
May 14, 2009

Have you ever wondered how the City of Derby maintains its streets, parks and equipment? The Public Works Department will showcase various equipment used to maintain our city’s infrastructure on Thursday, May 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Derby Middle School parking lot, 801 E. Madison.

The Public Works Department is comprised of six divisions: streets, parks, motor pool, water, weld, and sign/signal with support from GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Each division, along with the Wastewater Department, will have equipment on display.

This event is being held in conjunction with National Public Works Week, an annual tradition since 1960. The observance was established to raise awareness of public works issues and to increase confidence in public works employees dedicated to continually improving the quality of life for present and future generations.

The Derby Optimist Club will be providing fresh popped popcorn and cotton candy.
