Derby Police Offer Citizen Police Academy

Does law enforcement interest you? Have you ever wanted a first-hand look behind the scenes at the Derby Police Department? If so, the Citizen Police Academy wants you!
The Derby Police Department is offering a Citizen Police Academy to enhance the working relationship and communication between members of the community and law enforcement.
The academy is a 12-week program designed to provide a working knowledge and background of the Derby Police Department. The class meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for 12 consecutive weeks at the Derby Police Department located at 229 N. Baltimore. The academy will run from February 12 through May 6, 2008.
The instruction will consist of demonstrations, tours, and the opportunity to ride along with a patrol officer. The curriculum includes crime scene processing, criminal law, police procedure, and range qualifications. Upon successful completion of the academy, the police department honors graduates with a ceremony and formal banquet.
This program is free. In order to attend, you must a resident of Derby, work in Derby, or own a business in Derby. You must be 21 years of age and have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.
