City Looking for Board and Commission Applicants

Derby Mayor Dion Avello is looking for volunteers to serve on several City of Derby boards and commissions. Interested residents may pick up applications at City Hall, 611 Mulberry or download an application here.
The application deadline is Monday, March 31 at 5:00 p.m. Appointments will be presented for City Council approval by Mayor Avello. Appointments will be effective in May 2008.
Vacancies
ADA Board (3 vacancies, 2-year term)
The ADA Board meets on the first Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. The board receives input from the public as the City updates its self-evaluation plan and develops an ADA Transition Plan to achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Construction Trades Board (2 at-large vacancies, 3-year term)
The Construction Trades Board meets on an as-needed basis. The Board acts as an arbitrator between the Building Official and aggrieved parties, and serves as a recommending body for code adoption to the City Council.
Economic Development Board (3 vacancies, 2-year term)
The Economic Development Board meets on the third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. The Board acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council and reviews policies, programs and projects related to the City's commercial development.
Library Board (1 vacancy, 4-year term)
The Library Board meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. The Board is responsible for preparation of the library’s budget, adoption of policies for the operations of the library and is responsible for the oversight of all monies received and expenditures made by the library.
Ordinance Review Advisory Board (3 vacancies, 2-year term)
The Ordinance Review Advisory Board meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. The board reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations to the City Council with respect to amendment or repeal of existing ordinances of general applicability, and the adoption of new ordinances.
Planning Commission (4 vacancies, 3-year term)
The Planning Commission meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. The Commission performs an annual review of the Comprehensive Plan; prepares, adopts and maintains the zoning regulations and subdivision regulations; holds hearings on annexations, zone change requests and vacation requests; and reviews and approves plats and lot splits.
Senior Center Advisory Board (1 vacancy, 2-year term)
The Senior Center Advisory Board meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. The Board is responsible for setting policies and procedures for use of the Senior Center by individuals or patron organizations, approving rental requests, and setting rental fees. The board also considers suggestions and recommendations and makes expenditure decisions for revenues from board fundraisers (excluding memorials and monetary gifts).
Zoning Appeals Board (2 vacancies, 3-year term)
The Zoning Appeals Board meets on an as-needed basis on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. The Board has jurisdiction over appeals, variances, conditional uses and other related matters. Appeals pertain to appealing the decision of the zoning administrator's interpretation of how the zoning regulations read regarding the applicant's request. Variances occur when an applicant wants to place, for example, a shed to close too a house.
