Annual Events in the City of Derby

There are a number of annual events in the City of Derby to entertain adults and children alike. Listed below are a few community events that you may want to put on your calendar.
Arbor Day Celebration
April 2012
High Park, 2700 E. Madison
The Parks and Urban Forestry Board sponsors an Arbor Day Celebration every April. The event features a presentation, free food, a special visit by Sprig the Squirrel and much more! This fun, family event is free and open to the public.
Public Works Day
May 2012
High Park, 2700 E. Madison
Public Works Day is an opportunity for residents to come to High Park and check out heavy equipment and even sit in the operator’s seat.
Derby Days
June 2012
This fun, family community celebration features a parade, carnival, live music, kid fest, business fair, dance competitions, theater productions and much more.
Derby Garden Tour
June 2012
The City of Derby Public Works Department and the Parks & Urban Forestry Board host this annual event. It is generally held on the Saturday of Derby Days. Tickets are $5 and will be available at City Hall, 611 Mulberry Rd.; Public Works Facility, 3531 Corporate Park Dr.; and at the garden sites the day of the event.

Citywide Garage Sale
June 2012
The annual CrimeStoppers of Derby citywide garage sale serves as the organization’s main fundraiser. The cost is just $10. Registration begins May 23. Register at the Derby Informer or most financial institutions in Derby. For more information, contact Fred Wilken at 316-788-1705.
Independence Day Parade
July 4, 2012
The Derby VFW and American Legion sponsor an Independence Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. For more information or to enter a float, contact the VFW at 789-8244.
Independence Day Celebration
July 4, 2012
The City of Derby hosts an Independence Day Celebration at High Park, 2700 E. Madison. Events include music, ice cream social, kid's activities, and a fantastic fireworks display. The fun begins at 7:00 p.m. with fireworks at 9:40 p.m.
National Night Out
August 2012
The city invites residents to Rock River Rapids for a free night of swimming and fun on Monday, August 1. The police and fire/rescue departments will have educations displays. Members of the Derby Police Department will be available to speak at neighborhood block parties and set up barricades on Tuesday, August 2. Call 788-1557 for more information.
Derby Day of Service
September 11
High Park, 2700 E. Madison
In recognition of the National Day of Service and Remembrance established in 2009, the City of Derby invites residents, churches, and community groups to come together to help clean up High Park in honor of those affected by 9/11. All supplies will be provided. Call Amy Akers at 788-0301 or email amyakers@derbyweb.com to register your participation.
City of Derby Tree Lighting Event
November 15, 2012
Madison Avenue Central Park
The City of Derby Tree Lighting is held the Thursday before Thanksgiving and kicks off the official holiday sesaon in the community. Visit Santa, make a craft, have some snacks and more!
Santa's Village
December 2, 2012
Derby Public Library
This fun family event features pictures with Santa Claus, train displays, crafts, refreshments and more!
Christmas Parade
Early December
The route begins at Panther Stadium, proceed west on Madison to Georgie, south on Georgie to Market, and east on Market to Panther Stadium.
