Annual Events in the City of Derby

There are a number of annual events in the City of Derby to entertain adults and children alike. Listed below are a few community events that you may want to put on your calendar.
Troop Support Ride
The 3rd Annual Ride will be held October 2, 2010. The ride is held to collect donations for "Christmas in a Box," a fundraising drive by KFDI's Brian and and Kellie to collect items to send to our troops overseas during the holidays.
The event will begin at American Legion Post 4 in Wichita (816 N. Water) and end at American Legion Post 408 in Derby (101 S. Baltimore). See the Troop Support Ride Flyer for more information.
City Tree Lighting
The City of Derby Tree Lighting will be held Thursday, November 18. This event serves as a "kick off" for the holiday season. The Chamber of Commerce is coordinating a new "Look for the Green Lights" program to get businesses involved in encouraging residents to shop local.
Arbor Day Celebration
The Parks and Urban Forestry Board sponsors an Arbor Day Celebration at High Park each April near the national observance. The event generally features a presentation, free food, a special visit by Sprig the Squirrel and much more! This fun, family event is free and open to the public.
Derby Days: First weekend of June
This fun, family community celebration features a parade, carnival, live music, kid fest, business fair, dance competitions, theater productions and much more.
Derby Garden Tour: First Saturday of June
The City of Derby Public Works Department and the Parks & Urban Forestry Board host this annual event. It is generally held on the Saturday of Derby Days.
Crimestoppers Garage Sale: Date TBA
The annual CrimeStoppers of Derby citywide garage sale is held on the Saturday following Derby Days. The event serves as the organization’s main fundraiser. The cost is just $10.
Independence Day Parade: July 4, 2011
The Derby VFW and American Legion sponsor an Independence Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. For more information or to enter a float, contact the VFW at 789-8244.
Independence Day Celebration
The City of Derby hosts an Independence Day Celebration at High Park, 2700 E. Madison. Events include music, ice cream social, kid's activities, and a fantastic fireworks display.
National Night Out: First Monday of August
The city invites residents to Rock River Rapids for a free night of swimming and fun. The police and fire/rescue departments will have educations displays. Members of the Derby Police Department will be available to speak at neighborhood block parties and set up barricades as well. Call 788-1557 for more information.
