Annual Events in the City of Derby

Derby Days Parade

There are a number of annual events in the City of Derby to entertain adults and children alike. Listed below are a number of events in the Derby community that might pique your interest.

Arbor Day Celebration
The Parks and Urban Forestry Board sponsors an Arbor Day Celebration at High Park each April near Earth Day.

Senior Dream Day
This event is sponsored by the Derby Senior Center and held on the third Wednesday in April.

Derby Days
This premiere community event is held the first weekend in June (May 30, May 31 and June 1, 2008). This annual community celebration features a parade, carnival, live music, kid fest, business fair, dance competitions, theater productions and much more.

Derby Garden Tour
The City of Derby is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Garden Tour. It will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Parks and Urban Forestry Board. For more information, click here.

Crimestoppers Garage Sale
CrimeStoppers of Derby hosts a garage sale the second Saturday in June (June 7, 2008). It serves as the organization’s main fundraiser.

Summer Sounds Concert Series
The Derby Recreation Center hosts annual events throughout the year, including the Summer Sounds Concert Series. For more information, visit the DRC.

Independence Day Parade
The Derby VFW sponsors an Independence Day Parade each year at 10:00 a.m. on July 4. The route begins at Derby Middle School, goes down Madison to Georgie, down Georgie to Market and east on Market back to the Middle School.

Fourth of July Celebration
The City of Derby hosts an "Old Fashioned" 4th of July celebration at High Park, 2700 E. Madison. Events include live music, a celebrity pie-eating contest, ice cream social, bike parade and as always, a fireworks display.

National Night Out
The Derby Police Department sponsors National Night Out the first Tuesday in August. The event is held at Rock River Rapids after regular operating hours. It’s free to the public.

City Tree Lighting
The City of Derby is gearing up for its 3rd annual City Tree Lighting at High Park. This community event kicks off the holiday season and is usually held the Thursday after Thanksgiving (December 4, 2008).

Christmas Parade
First Christian Church of Derby sponsors the Christmas Parade, which is usually in early December on a Saturday evening.
