Employment Program for Seniors

Derby Senior Center

Workforce Centers of South Central Kansas is bringing a new program to Derby -the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). If you are a dedicated, punctual and responsible adult 55 and older, this program may be for you.

SCSEP is a federally-funded job training program for unemployed, low income individuals 55 and older. Its goal is to help older workers gain and enhance the job skills needed for today’s workplace. SCSEP places seniors with organizations and pays wages as they perform regular part-time work.

Requirements of the program:

  • Must be 55 or older
  • Unemployed
  • Low income
  • Must seek regular employment while enrolled in SCSEP
  • Application required

“The employment program is free and available to all members of the Derby Senior Center,” said BreAnna Monk, Senior Services Administrator. “If the senior is not a member of the center and would like to join, we welcome them to get involved.”

SCSEP will provide skill training, workshops, apprenticeships and jobs on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning June 14.
