Mark your calendars for June 6, 7 and 8 for the 9th Annual Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Festival. This fun, family-friendly event will be held at High Park, 2801 E. James St.
Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Fest, formerly known as the Derby BBQ Festival, underwent a name and logo change in 2019 to reflect the addition of a music festival to celebrate Derby’s 150th anniversary this year. If successful, the music festival could become a permanent addition.
Also new this year is a carnival in the northwest parking lot of the park. Wee Carnival will be on site June 6, 7 & 8, with all-you-can-ride wrist band sessions each day. Wristbands will be $25 with one wristband required per person for each session. Ride tickets are $3 each and are good for one ride.
Here’s a schedule of events for the weekend:
Thursday, June 66-10 p.m.
Friday, June 76 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, June 89 a.m. to 3 p.m. & 6 p.m. to 10 pm.
Entry forms can be found at DerbyBBQ.com. Contest winners will receive cash prizes and ribbons.
On-site parking will be available June 6, 7 & 8. On June 8, please park in the grass parking accessible from Madison Ave. (east entrance). For ADA parking, enter the park using the James St. entrance.
Proceeds from this event benefit the McConnell Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center. The City of Derby has donated $12,000 of proceeds from this event to the center over the last eight years.
