Celebrate Independence Day in Derby

Independence Day in Derby will be a fun, family affair for all ages. Learn about what’s happening on July 4 in the Derby community. 

Derby Running Club Firecracker Run
Strap on your running shoes and start your day with the 37th Annual Firecracker Run at High Park, 2801 E. James. The 4-mile walk/run begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 1-mile walk/run at 8:30 a.m. Register for the event. The event is open to all ages and abilities, including runners and walkers.  

Independence Day Parade: One Nation Indivisible
Grab your lawn chairs and blankets for the Independence Day Parade that starts at 10 a.m. The parade begins at Panther Stadium (just east of Madison & Woodlawn), proceeds west on Madison to Georgie, south on Georgie to Market, east on Market back to Derby Middle School. The parade is sponsored by Derby’s VFW Post 7253 and American Legion Post 408. To enter the parade, contact Chelsea Lowery at 409-4209 or

Party in the Park
Party in the Park – A 4th of July Celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave. It will include food trucks and kid’s activities provided by Panther Professionals, a Derby business collaborative.

Derby Historical Museum
Learn more about Derby after the parade at the Derby Historical Museum at 208 N. Westview (corner of Woodlawn and Market along the parade route). It will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, donations are welcome.

Derby Twins Baseball
After an afternoon rest (or swim at Rock River Rapids), gear up for the Derby Twins vs. Haysville Aviators game at 7 p.m. at Panther Field, Woodlawn & Market. The game is sponsored by the City of Derby. Learn more at

Fireworks & More
Round out your day at the City of Derby’s Independence Day Celebration beginning at 7 p.m. at High Park. Fireworks begin around 9:30 p.m. Enjoy food trucks and fun, family games. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Please do not bring fireworks to the park.

ADA parking will be available at the Darrell Zimmerman Family Shelter. Parking will be available in the paved lots on the north end of the park and grass parking will be accessible from Madison Ave.
